Hello,

I have just jioned the forum.

My partner and I have two dogs, Bess (female) a 3yr old Lab-JAck russell cross and Spot (male) a 1.5yr old Jack russell. We have had bess for just less than two years and spot for 6 months.

Bess is the dominant dog and Spot is happy with this. Bess has never had problems out walking untill a month ago. Now when we see any other dogs and our dogs are on the lead Bess will start pulling on the lead and barking. She has never done this in the past but will now always do it no matter what dog or where we are. Of the lead she is fine and gets on well with other dogs but prefers her toys.

Can any one explain why she has suddenly developed this habit ?

Books tell us to cross the road and try to avoid other dogs and distract Bess, however this contradicts the school of thought that owners cause there dogs "aggresion/nervousness" by sending a signal there is a problem ie look there is a dog lets cross the road !!!

Would love to know why she has started doing this or any advice??

Thanks
