My Parents have a English Springer Spaniel and he needs loads and I mean loads of exercise! On average he gets 3-4 hours a day! And he would still go out if you asked him! I think alot of people underestimate how much exercise a spaniel needs, they were bred to hunt all day so they just keep on going!
However a King Charles Spaniel was bred as a companion dog and is also a rare breed as the Cavalier King Charles is becoming more and more popular the poor King Charles is getting near to extinction!

Well, I wasn't thinking of the Springer Spaniels and such. More of the Cockers. But yes, a CKC Spaniel would be a good choice. Didn't think about that. The only thing I have agianst those cute little dogs is that they almost always have some type of heart problems in their life, whether it be life threatening, or hardly at all.

Beside visiting shelters, go to a petstore that has obedience classes and observe differt dogs.....also an all breed dog show and walk through the grooming area and ask questions. There are also links on line ( I think it's through AKC) that has you answer questions to , What breed is right for me ? Also there you'll find any breed you may be wondering about and they will tell you what the breed"s profile is. Then there's wonderful mixes !!! I'd agree a puppy would not be your best choice.

I'm also a novice owner but with great people like Renee and Saje helping me out through out the way of raising Rocky, it hasn't been so hard! :)

I have had dogs in the past but they were my brothers and I wasn't really responsible for them. Rocky is truly my first dog, and he is a GSD. I would highly recommend them whether it be from rescue or a reputable breeder. :D

Then you need to make it more fun for him so he wants to do the agility more than chase rabbits

I train 6 agility classes a week this is the most common problem like 1 in 3 dogs have this it just requires more motivation to want to do agility.

We're still looking for a dog sports trainer because we'd like to get her into herding. We found one trainer but found out she thinks she's physcic :rolleyes:, so we didn't go to her.

English springers are a really nice breed and would make a fantastic 1st dog.

There good at agility as long as you know how to motivate them there proberly the most tricky breed to keep motivated throughout its agility career there are specialist books on motivating springers and before you got one i would suggest reading these.
