Went to a horse trial over the weekend (three-day eventing on a local scale); tromped over hill and dale, scurried out of the way of galloping horses, got sunburned and learned a new (to me) photography term from the pro shooting the event.
It's called 'chimping', where one takes a photo, looks at the playback and goes 'Oooo, oooo, oooo, I got it!' Met a couple of other gals taking photos, too, and we 'chimped' all over the cross country course. Lots of fun and lots of photos!

Ooooo, oooo, oooo, I got it!

Not a great pic but boy, they came darned close to crashing. Horse and rider recovered and went on to finish the course.

Into the water and...

flying up the hill to the finish.

A little too much rein...

About to land on the bank.

Galloping on between fences.

Don't think the horse or rider liked the ditch under this log.

Where would the riders be without their grooms?

Okay, that's it. Gotta go clean the barn and pull the beasties in from pasture.

I was going to post last night but you didn't have the rest of them up. These are good! It's hard to get the sky to expose properly, or at least I think so, so you did really good there. And you did just catch some awesome shots.

"Chimping" LOL I like that!

These are Great! You could possibly use a shadow/highlight tool in photoshop if you want to make the horses stand out more in some of these images...

Great shots... makes me wish I had my DSLR when I went to rolex :(.

LOL I don't want that person's leg position... her knee looks a bit high in all those pics. (could have more weight down in the stirrup) I do LOVE her automatic release!!

gorgeous! I miss my horse :(

She wasnt my horse, but she had foaled and nobody rode her for the next few months, so she didnt even have shoes or anything. We shoed her, I rebroke her, got her back into a FLAWLESS jog trot, and went on to win some shows. I technically leased her, nobody else was allowed to ride her except me because she wasn't 100% trustworthy under saddle.

I rode western and she was a GORGEOUS blue black egyptian arabian mare, about 17 yrs old and around 16 hands.

I was always a sucker for the paints, though. And that little guy is adorable!
