I live in the suburbs, 30 miles away from New York City. I've owned Am Staffs since I was twenty (I'm now 42.) in this same neighborhood. On New Year's day, my local pet group decided to have a dog-friendly party. One of the members invited her sister, an owner of a West Highland Terrier looking dog.
The party was at my house, as I have the largest yard, and I wouldn't fuss when an accident happened. Around 1pm, all of the dogs were out in my 2.5 acre, fenced backyard. My Am Staffs were all playing with their usual playmates. My elderly one was lying next to my feet as I was talking to a friend who wanted to purchase one of my puppies. All of a sudden the Highland Terrier came running up to my dog and starting aggressively biting his ears, face, and paws. My dog did nothing, except whine.
Suddenly the owner rushed up, and kicked my dog in the face, saying that he was attacking her dog. As my husband escorted her and her sister off of the property, she was shouting "**** pitbulls! They shouldn't allow f****** dogs like that in a PET group!"
After she left, many of the member laughed. Later, I was given a written apology by the sister of the owner of the terrier. I soon found out that her sister was living in Canada!
All in all, discrimination goes anywhere.
