I would like to teach my dog to stay vs. wait. He will sit and wait (I use wait) while I walk away, if I am holding a treat, and then I can tell him to come and he does it perfectly.
I would love to be able to teach him to stay. Stay meaning stay until I come and get him. However, he is super attached (he is an adopted six-year old dachshund) and I am not sure he can handle or do it. He follows me if I go into the other room, and even if I am moving around the same room, he is right next to me.
How would I go about teaching him a stay?
