The neighbors down the street have a black lab (looks like a mix to me--his ears and tail curl at the tips) named Rocky. Several times I've seen the dog wandering up and down the street, and I've returned him to his house at least three times. Yesterday, while walking Tippy (the multicolored dog in my signature), we had to pass Rocky's house. They were out in their yard, with the dog. When the dog saw us, he immediately takes off towards us. I'm holding onto Tippy thinking, "Oh, great." halfway there, someone says, "Rocky won't bite." I reply, "Yeah, well she'll bite him." They run over and grab the dog, take him up and make him sit, then the owner says, "Well, it'd teach him a lesson." I'm thinking, "You think that my dog biting your dog is going to help you sort out your dog's behavioral problems?" If Tippy bit him, there's a good chance he'd bite her back. He's probably a foot taller than her, but I'm not worried about that. If he bit her though, I'd be very upset. All I was doing was walking my dog.
Earlier I had seen Rocky in our yard. Thinking how stupid his owners are, I go to slip on my shoes and grab a leash to bring him back to his house, but by the time I've done that, he's gone so I don't bother. Today he came into our yard AGAIN. My dad returned him and was talking to his owner. I looked down the street and saw Rocky in his frontyard. He gets bored and goes into the yard...then crosses the street....chases a bird....and suddenly his owner realizes the dog isn't there and starts shouting, "Rocky! Rocky, come! Rocky! Rocky! Come, Rocky! ROCKY!" When my dad got back, he told us he uses a shock collar on the poor thing, so that "when he doesn't come". Doesn't seem to be helping any!!!
I'm going to be pestering those people until they get it through their heads to take the darn dog to a training class and put it on a leash if it's in public. I'm going to find exactly what the leashlaws for the town is and send it to them....maybe that'll freak them out enough that they'll put the dog on a leash...policeman cruise around here all the time, I'm surprised they've gotten away with it this long. Policeman have slowed down twice in the last couple of weeks when I've been walking my girls to check and see if they're on a leash.
Why is it that the responsible owners have to deal with plain idiots?? Purr, smkie....WHY DO WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH IDIOTS?!?!
