Uncontrollable barking

I have a dog called monkey who will not stop barking while anybody else is eating. He also barks when people are talking to each other and not to him. How could I stop him from doing this.

/EDIT: The dog was recently acquired from a dogs home and came from sri lanka where he was probably a stray. He was maltreated by people there and was brought to this country by somebody and sent to a dogs home. He is an affectionate dog, but will not accept who is boss!

It sounds like he - and you - would benefit a great deal from NILIF (Nothing In Life Is Free) training.

thanks i found a page about NILIF training and it sounds just about the right sort of thing.

He sounds like he's been starved for attention most of his life and just can't get enough of it now, poor guy!

What's his name? I hope you post some photos of him in the picture galleries. You did a good thing, rescuing this one.

Lol, that's right - you did post it in your first post! I've got too much on my mind today!

hehe yeah

he has developed a very effective and annoying way of not going anywhere when he doesnt want to - he literally just falls onto his side making it impossable to move him (he's quite heavy)
