Trouble with prednisone

Layla was put on prednisone 1 a day for allergies. I know a side effect is excessive drinking and eating. Now she is peeing and pooping in the house at night at least 3 times each!! Is this normal? Can anyone suggest a new feeding schedule......like not letting her eat or drink after a certian time?? My 5 yr old got up during the night and splatt right in it!

it is normal. It's a steriod, so it makes them really thirsty.

I would call your vet, and let them know. It's possible they may lower the dosage and that may help.

Bailey pees all over when he gets the shot, but he's on a low dose of pred right now and he's fine.

Prednisone should ALWAYS be a last ditch - and VERY short term treatment. Hopefully you'll have Layla off of it very quickly.

I also would tell your vet,,,she may be on to high a dose for her weight...
