I talked to my vet and carried Rusty to the vet and they said he is scratching so much because of possibly a food allergy. Is there a brand of food that will remedy this situation I hate to see the poor little guy scratch so much :(

Since you don't know just exactly what Rusty is reacting to, it's impossible to say that food X or food Y will fix the situation.

You need to take a look at everything you've been feeding since the scratching started, then compare that to a number of products that are formulated differently.

Unfortunately, not only major ingredients like the sources of meat and carbs can be the cause, but also lesser ingredients, right down to certain vitamin or mineral supplements.

Due to that you could be extremely lucky and find a food that works out right on the first switch, in the worst case you could test numerous brands and nothing will work. In that case, the only way to truly find out is an elimination diet made from fresh ingredients.

I use Natural Balance Venison and Rice. You can get it at Petco. It is anti allergy and a excellent food. The Duck and Potato and Fish and sweet Potato are also for treating allergies. The idea is to feed them something that they probably have not developed an allergic reaction to, which in many cases , are the common ingredients in cheaper foods. This has to be done by eliminating the common things that usually cause allergies like soy, corn, beef, chicken etc.. the list goes on and on. The Natural Balance foods don't have any of these common allergy producing ingredients.

Or, just have your vet send you to a specialist and get your pup tested. It realy doesn't cost to much AND you will for sure know whats going on :)

Also, any ear invections? Our pup had a bad one (that are vet before didn't check for  )

We got that cleared up and he stopped scratching and teh red bumbs went away on his belly. Seems the ear invection was making his body go crazy and causing other problems

I hope this helps

P.S.
We switched to a grain free food (Innova "EVO", and Solid Gold's "bark at the moon" are a couple you might look into)

The Natural Balance in any flavor is great because they're a single source protein. It helps to eliminate the protein source that may be the problem, but as Mordy said, it's not necessarily the protein that they're allergic to. The Solid Gold also uses (really) different types of protein (bison, etc) and that might be something you might want to try. It's also a good idea to look into something with little or no grain. Maybe the NB Duck and Potato....

I lot of times they are allergic to the wheat or corn in the food, so you could try eliminating those by changing to a food like Bobsk8 or Abbygirl uses and give it a month or so.
