Another tip to prevent yelling (in response to a barking dog).
Get up and go to your dog to deal with it. When I get lazy and start to hear Tucker barking, I will yell across the house for him to shut up
If I force myself to go over to him, I am not going to yell when I am standing right next to him. Instead I will typically respond a little more appropriately (calmly! lol). Plus, on the walk over I have had a chance to think about what I am going to do, and cool down so I can prevent a kneejerk reaction.
