Hiya

Well after speaking to a couple of breeders and doing a lot of research, we decided a Border Collie would fit into our family quite well. One of the fantastic breeders we spoke to advised us of a litter that was due in a few weeks that she thought could suit our names. So I spoke to the breeder on the phone, she was really nice and everything seemed great. The mum, who is called Wish, I'm not sure if she is a champion or anything, but I know the dad is definately, and the mum has competed in agility and also conformation I think.

They seemed really nice, and the litter was born on Tuesday. I spoke to them last night, and they say they have a puppy that could be suitable for us. She is black and white with a white stipe on her back, so she can't be shown. However, we hope to do alot of sports with her when she is the right age! Obviously, we have to go and see her, which we will be doing when the pups are three weeks, and at that time we can meet the dad and mum so that's good. Basically just wanted to check if everything seems ok, because they seem like really good breeders but I just anted to make sure.

She will come home at the start of December, a bit close to Christmas I know, but Christmas this year will be quiet for us and also it will be pretty cose to the Christmas holidays. We plan to socialise like crazy, and already have a cratethat we used for our other dog.

That's another question, any tips on introducing them to each other? She's really laid back, loves dog etc but she might get seriously jealous, because she is very attached to me, and follows me around from room to room. Any tips?

In fact, any tips in general? Or good websites full of information? Anything is appreciated. Does the breeder seem ok? Website - http://www.geocities.com/starsideuk/

If you click on Latest news and then the link to the blog thing, there are picture of two of the puppies :) Sorry this is so long :(

I take it your current dog is a BC as well? It is no suprise to me that she follows you from room to room, you are her herd and she's keeping you in check at all times LOL!

The breeder you described does indeed sound like a good one. It's always nice to hear of breeders that compete in agility with their BC's...the breed seems like they were made for the sport! I would double check though and ask if they have run any types of health screens on the parents prior to breeding them. Some examples would be (CEFR, OFA etc.) Not all breeds need all the same certifications, and I am not sure what is necessary for BC's.

As far as introducing your current dog to the new pup, just do so on neutral ground and in a low key environment. Generally adult dogs do okay with new puppies.

Best of Luck to you...

Wait!!!

There are SO many very reputably Border Collie rescues! Most of the ones that I have seen have dogs that are less than 6 months old so you can still get a puppy. Please look around your area for a rescue! If it is a good one, the dogs will be kept in foster homes (not kennels) so the dog will have a head-start on socializing and house training.

Good luck!

Herschel, we will look in to rescue centers, but I do think we will probably go down the breeder route this time round. :)

The Hip Scores were low, I think mums was only about 8, and the eye tests ere clear. It says on the website the exact tests they do :p
