So I could have the useless task of ridding dog chat of 10 pages of it this morning. I wish I knew, I don't see the point at all.

I don't get it either, I mean aren't most people going to flat out ignore it? Hard to believe they actually get productive hits or profitable ones from spamming forums and annoying members?

I wish we had a better system for blocking spammers from even creating accounts. Are they actual people or bots? Maybe we can have one of those little captcha things or whatever where you type what you see in the box when you are creating an account and have it set where you can't post anywhere else until you post an introduction in the introduction forum. Won't rid us of all of them but it may bring the volume down some.

My friend who owns some kind of internet company pays people to join blogs and post with the link in their siggy. They have to actually have some knowledge or interest in what they're posting in and partake in actual conversation, but obviously if someone in a very small start up company is going to bother paying people to do that, it works.

Most of the spam you guys don't even see! It gets caught in filters that tag it "moderated" and are only visible to moderators -- probably averaging around 1000 or more in a 24 hour period :wall:

Most of it -- lately -- seems to be pirated designer knock-offs and the spam seems to be running through the same places customer service calls get routed to

And then there's the pointless stuff from Netherlands Antilles

Some of them bury the links in thread titles, etc. I have no idea what the point is there.

Nikes uggs jerseys. Lobotin or something shoes,. more uggs, Cealis or some kind of drug, more uggs, more lobotin shoes, purses, more nikes. more jerseys foreign languages of who knows what, and poor Wellington Boots a lady i accidentlly banned that even tho I apologized never forgave me, has no idea, why her name with no info made me think she was more of the same. I would not buy nikes or jerseys or uggs (tho I do own a pair because someone gave them to me) or any of the rest of it, out of pure protest for spammers.

Sure, if you see it, report it. We don't always see the ones that "get through" as we're fishing through the "moderated" stuff.

Now, from the best that I can tell, between the louis vitton, uggs and viagra stuff, the spammers are all impotent cross dressers with no shoes.

Or with shoe fetishes -- worn with bogus NFL jerseys.

Have you seen the wave of what looks like investment come-ons from China?

the spam isn't coming from the legit companies, it's coming from places selling knock-offs, so they're doubly despicable.

Well the spam scanner thing on Chaz is convinced I'm a spammer--I've been banned twice in the last year for "spam."

It must work if people keep posting it. I wonder if some of the links contain spyware, malware, etc. My stepdad has a bad habit of clicking random things and got some malware that locked up his computer and sent up a window with a message claiming to be the FBI, and that his computer had been used for illegal activities-terrorism, child porn, zoophilia (sp?), and sodomy porn. It said that if he didn't send $200 to an internet account he would be arrested in 72 hours. My parents totally believed it. They called DH because he's into computers--my mom was screaming at my stepdad because she thought he was going to be arrested, it was going to be in the paper, and she would have to resign because she is an elementary school teacher. Luckily DH talked them down, explained it was a scam, and went over to fix it and install better security software.

Ugh, Polish Spam. Wish I had paid attention when my Dad was trying to teach me the language, LOL. Yeah, even with this garbage I'm still curious.

As an aside, some brainiac typo'ed "Uggs as *Ughs* on my computer at work, makes me giggle every time I have to click on it because you sometimes mentally say what you read.

One way some get caught when we're cleaning up is if they've started a thread and it has no replies yet and it's in the middle of a column of spam, so one thing that helps is if you see a fellow member's thread that hasn't gotten a reply yet, take a second to post a reply.

Besides, it's always nice to be acknowledged ;)
