Hello All,

I have a question for all of the raw feeders out there.

I wanted to get my dog (7 months old, see sig) a raw bone for recreational chewing, so I stopped by my local butcher.

They had a couple of options. Based on size, I took a bag of the lamb femurs. Are these okay for recreational chewing?

Thanks.

Typically, they are a bit hard, and the middle of the femur will break into shards. I can give them to Raja just fine, and I just throw away the extra pieces when she's done. But I wouldn't give them to a dog that would swallow one of those pieces. For dogs like that, I prefer a lamb pelvis.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I gave one to her today and she did well. She's not a chomper or a gulper, but she does like to chew. I've kept a keen eye on her and she's pretty much just cleaned the bone to a nice polish.

I gave her the bone frozen because I think she's cutting her last few adult teeth.

I'll make sure she's supervised when she has one.
