Jumping into Pickup

Hello, I have a young healthy Aussie that had bad experence when a pup jumping into the back of our PU. He has been gun shy to jump up sence. I thought food (and he is a chow hound) would be the anwser. Any ideas to help him get over this issue? Mom can't lift him and he misses out on many walks because of this.
