What are some life changing or thought provoking books you feel everyone should read?

Cat's Cradle by Vonnegut is another one. A couple of books by Vonnegut, actually, but Cat's Cradle is #1. I think it just made me more aware of our culture, government, etc.

Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, that's a pretty obvious one. I'm not sure how drastically it changed my life, but it definitely was influential.

the heart is deceitful above all things by JT Leroy - I re-read this recently, and it just paints a vivid picture of what I don't want, and what I may have been on the road to. There's this part where the mother will only let her child eat pringles and ginger ale, because she believes everything else is contaminated...it just hit very close to home for me. But I think it's a good read for anyone who is or has a mentally ill parent.

I couldn't make it through "A Child Called It". I read about half of it, and decided it was not something I wanted to read.
