Why do some breeds pant more than others?

I mean, brachycephalic breeds pant more... but GSD's ALWAYS seem to be panting, whereas Ibizan hounds usually have their mouths closed.

Is this because of coat? mental state? some sort of other inherited breed trait?

Just curious :)

I think it has to do with the IH's coming from a tropical place with high temputures. while GSD's dont generally come from a very hot place. Such as how the IH would shiver and be very cold in the arctic, while the husky would thrive there

Yeah, that. Also, there's over all body build to consider- GSDs are heavier boned than sighthounds, sighthounds have a larger lung capacity, etc.
