is it advisable to but a 10 year old designer shoes for his birthday? I have been invited for a small boy’s birthday and I think a pair of great designer shoes would be a perfect gift but would like to get a second opinion before deciding?

Well, he'd probably grow out of them in half a year. Never mind that he'd probably like toys, books, or pretty much anything else better.

Yeah, I think books or toys are a better gift. Books will last him forever - he will grow out of the shoes in no time and when he is older he won't be able to use his designer shoes to show off.

Books for sure, the classics maybe.

Expensive shoes, unless he really really wants a specific pair and his parents tell you that, aren't likely a great choice. I know my son grows fast so not much point in expensive shoes that are going to be too small in a few months.

If you're not sure of what books, ask his parents, or do something like movie passes or something. I usually keep those on hand for my son's birthday party invites.
