Kastle ran in his first tournament last weekend. He did pretty well, could have been a little better. He was distracted starting his first run (you can see him bobbling his first jump) but he is so competitive that once he saw the dog in the other lane catching up, he would put on the speed - little brat!

His second run was against Nikon and he was more consistent. I pulled him from his last run because his paw pads were burned badly enough (stop pad was dangling by a thread and had to be clipped off) that he was actually limping after his races (he is a stoic dog with high pain tolerance). He was running about 4.4-4.5seconds with not very good starts. I need to rework how I start him, we're way too inconsistent. Anyway, not too shabby for a 13 month old. They say they're at their flyball peak around 3 years so hopefully by 2 he will be nearing 4.0.

Eden had a rough time her first race. The dog crossed over and bullied her with her personality and taking up her personal space. Eden is a submissive, very sweet dog and this didn't make her feel very good. She tried to run the second time because I asked but the dog crossed again and she hurried back to Mommy. I ended up running with her to get her to be successful and was SO HAPPY that me by her side was enough, some dogs just flat out quit after they are pushed around like that.

On Sunday, she was nervous but I set her up against a teammate's dog, one that she knows and is very, very nice and you can see she is nervous when she hits the spot where the other dog came after her and then realizes it's Phoebe over there and really gets happy - I love that!

She was a solid low 8second (we were at one time praying for her to break 9 seconds, now she's solidly breaking 8!!!) Her times were crap because of my start times. I've never had to work on starts because she's so inconsistent and slow but now I need to, she is actually about par for dogs her size that run on teams. I am SO PROUD of her for working so hard this weekend and overcoming her fear!
