Question about undercoat

Ok this is really going to sound stupid...but how do you know if you dog has an undercoat or not??

If it's not a poodle, bichon, maltese or yorkie, it has an undercoat.

If you brush them and you see fluffy hairs that aren't shiny like the top coat and/or it's coming out in chunks right about now, it's an undercoat.

Chloe being a poss. shepherd mix has an undercoat.

Goldens : huge undercoats !!

Thanks I was just wondering because it doesnt seem like Chloe has much of one but hair is really been flying these days no matter how much I brush her...I can brush her then a few minutes later brush her again and its everywhere Cause her coat is very short except around her neck area and her butt and that is mostly where the shedding is taking place

You will be brushing all summer. Dogs with undercoats shed alot during the summer. My house is so hairy I want to cry sometimes.
