One of the articles did say the parents had ELEVEN children.

Not a case of friends. A case of too many kids.

a case of living in a place without readily available birth control/birth control that is seen as wrong :( no wonder things like this slip through the cracks. Imagine working to support 11 children, or even paying attention to that many!

Yes it is true. Here is the link to the story (scroll down & it's after the intro at the top) very disturbing even if it did happen long ago (back in 1939, I didn't know C cections have been around that long).

The story you linked to is a different child altogether, not the one the OP is talking about.
But C-sections have been around for hundreds of years.

Not quite as tragic as 9 but a tragic story nonetheless..

A girl I went to school with got pregnant at 12 with twins. Her mother kicked her out of the house& the father's parents took her in until she gave birth. She was 13 when she had the twins. They were begged to abort the babies, but the girl's mom wouldn't agree to the procedure because she should have to suffer the consequences of her actions.

She's now 26 with 13yr old twins& 2 more kids. She never got an education past grade 8 and her life is a mess. What parent lets two 12yr olds who are 'dating' be alone together? Also, who thinks 12yr olds are having sex?! Insane.

The thing is, in raising kids, you can NOT watch them 100% if the time if you want to let them learn to be a grown up. Its not healthy for them or the parents. At 12, yeah, I had freedom to walk around to friends houses, hang out after school at houses where parent were still at work, etc. I never even thought of having sex, was still working up to my first kiss lol BUT I had friends that were a bit more advanced.

The important part is NOT watching them all the time, forbidding things, etc...its teaching them reality. Teaching real sex ed, explaining feelings that are going to come up, what happens, why it happens AND imo its very important to teach safe outlets for those feelings.

Yeah, you can't watch them all the time but my parents had an open door policy. If I was with a boy, the door had to be kept open. I think the reality is children make poor decisions ..so yes, we have to talk to them about decisions& even let them make some minor mistakes. But letting kids who are dating be alone behind closed doors? I just feel like that is a mistake.

Or, as my best friends used to famously shout at her parents (they kept the open door policy wayyyy too long.. I think when she visits home now with her fiance, it is still in place and she's a medical doctor and 26 LOL) "I DON'T NEED A BAD TO HAVE SEX, MOM!!"

This is so sad. :(

They definitely need SOMEONE to sit down with this little girl and find out who the 17 year old guy is. Then, they need to press charges against him, and make him pay child support. That is ridiculous.

My cousin is 15 and had a boyfriend recently who would stay overnight in her bedroom with her several times a month. They were alone for hours and hours at a time. It was a disaster waiting to happen. I couldn't believe that her parents let that happen. And she was 15. I also had a classmate get pregnant in the 8th grade. I don't know what ever happened to her... I know she had the baby, though.

I can't even begin to fathom the effects it is going to have on that young girl, or anyone who has sex under the age of like, 16. And even that is still mentally not ready, IMO.

I went to school with a girl who had THREE kids by the end of 8th grade :yikes:

Her mom encouraged it, too- she loved having little kids in the house to play with

She was in my homeroom in 6th and 8th grade, and was pregnant for most of the school year(s).

I think about her occasionally and wonder how her life is now. She went through a LOT of phases in middle school- she shaved her head one year, dyed her hair green another year, and then started wearing really promiscuous clothing. It was really sad.

At the school where I student taught, some of the 6th graders were regularly having sex ON CAMPUS. They had to lock the bathrooms during the day and students were only allowed to use the restrooms during designated, chaperoned times. If they had to go during class, you had to call an office escort to come get them.

It is sad what happens without strong role models at home.

Jeez....I know kids have sex really young, but I honestly thought it was like a rare thing...kids who have kind of unbalanced and inappropriate sexual identity for their age or kids from really terrible, messed up home situations who are encouraged to, or like a really really rare interaction between kids that gets out of hand...

I had no idea it was so common. When I find out friends lost their virginities at the ages of 13 or 14 I'm often surprised at how young they were.

I'd mostly likely never think twice about letting my 12 year old alone with a kid of the opposite sex (or the same sex) for concerns about sexual experimentation. If they were "dating" and I noticed them getting physical or a sudden interest in sexually themed TV shows/music/movies or a change in behavior...sure...but I don't look at most 12 year olds (even ones in "relationships") and think they're sexually active.
