Well I have had quite the busy day today with the dogs and sledding. The runs were good and the dogs behaved well. It was quite slushy though and was pretty slippery but worked out. And so when I was done and had all the dogs released and groomed I went in to get Pakak. I took him out to the side corral connected to the barn once used for horses. Its away from the big field so Pakak could'nt be distracted by the other dogs.
He was pretty excited to get out and i had dried beef in my pocket as a treat for him. I got him a puppy halter and man was it a job to get him into it . He'd get his front legs in on his own with some coaxing and then would panick and pull his legs out but eventually I got him in and buckled in. It was then time for him to run off the stress lol he ran circles around me rolling in the snow until he figured out the the harness wasent coming off. I called him and when he came to me he got a peice of meat after i did this 8 times to where he no longer needed the treat and moved with the harness comfortably i went to get the straw. I just used one flake and you just attach it to the other end of harness line. This made Pakak freeze and just looked at it and then at me confused and whined.
Eventually like the first harness wearing I got him to take a few cautiouse steps at a time for treats and praise. We spent 2 hours after the runs this morning working together and he was fine in the end. He worked great . He was walking comfortably the last few times and i was so proud of him.
So that was Pakaks first lesson in his sled dog training wish him luck
