I have one! I know when I was looking at lenses and stuff in the stores, the external flashes ran like $300 atleast. Not any help for good ones or anything, though.

I have one, and I honestly couldn't imagine not having one... I use it all the time!

This is the one I have... it's the Nikon SB600:

Nikon - SB-600 Speedlight External Flash Unit - SB-600

I think I paid around $200 for it. I'm pretty sure you'd be able to use it with the D60, but I'm not sure (I have a D80).
It says compatible with the D60!

Looks a lot like the Canon Speedlite I have my eye on. About the same price, too!

I also have the SB600 and really like it. I bought it when I had my D40, and it worked really well, so it should be fine with your D60 as well. I think I paid a little over $230 for mine, but that was a couple years ago.

I have a couple hundred put aside from graduation and christmas. It's something I've really wanted a while now and I think would be so helpful with indoor shots. I just can't afford $400 or something like that. Is there a good site to order off of? I could go down to the camera shop and see what price they have.

I have the SB 600 that I use with my Nikon D90 and really like it so far. I asked one of my photographer friends which one to get and that is what she told me. I think I paid about $200-$300 for it and batteries. Be sure to read up on which rechargeable batteries to get for it!

You'll definitely want to invest in at least a 4 pack of rechargable batteries. The flash takes 4 AA batteries and eats them quickly.

Another one with the SB600, I think it was $225? Found a really good deal on the internet.

And yes, it eats batteries like Girl Scout cookies.

I have an SB600 as well. It works with D40, D60, D90, D3000, D3100, D5000, D90, D7000 and everything else I can think of that's been released in the last 5-10 years. Not sure about the film cameras.

The issue with the SB600 is that it doesn't have a bounce card built into it like the SB900 does.

You can pick one up for $200 I think. I bought mine for less than $200 brand new but since I work in a photography store, I get the supplier price from Nikon.

My SB600 actually lasts quite a long time with one set of batteries. I have rechargeable batteries but I usually only need to recharge them every 2-3 shoots.
Nikon has a bunch of new flashes now I believe. I haven't seen them yet though so I have no idea how they perform. From what I heard though, they are faster (recharge) and less prone to overheating than the previous ones.

Yes it does! I just found this out this Christmas after having it for almost two years, but it's tucked in there!
I think you're thinking of the diffuser, not the bounce card. The bounce card is a white opaque piece of plastic about the thickness of a piece of white paper.

D'oh, you're right. :p

Par for the course today. I just need to stop talking and start drinking. I mean, celebrating National Margarita Day.

I have an SB600 and HAD a D60, and they work together (as has already been established in this thread).

I thought you had a D300?

I use my SB600 ALL THE TIME. I'd DIE without my external flash unit. I'd die without my camera.
I'd DIE.

I use it for ALLLL of my product shots.
