Harry went over a 6 foot fence the first time at 4 months. He just did a Spiderman running strait up it and going over when he saw a cat on the 2nd story balcony of the building behind us. Other than that, he would stay in the yard when we were home, but couldn't be contained if I wasn't there. I had related this story in the thread I had linked to...

I picked up Harry & Grant from the boarding kennel Sunday evening. I chose this particular kennel because they have indoor/outdoor runs. They even have a couple that have lids on them inside and out, just for containing spaz dogs like Harry. Imagine my shock when I discovered that he had escaped their Super Deluxe Escape Proof Kennel a couple of times. Fortunately, his escapes were in the indoor portion of his run. I guess the Saturday morning kennel attendant showed up for work, and was surprised to find Harry waiting for her in the kitchen. They assume that he crawled through a hole in the lid that wasn't very secure, dropped in the the run next to him that contained Grant, and then jumped out of Grant's uncovered kennel. After they reinforced that spot, he just started tearing at the chain link on the kennel door, and got out that way.

They later told me that they found him in the kitchen several times before they figured out how he was doing it.

I can't wait to see them! Which two did you meet? From what I understand, Stan is the smallest. He was the tiniest puppy, but seemed to have caught up when I got him at 3 1/2 months. Green (now Rune) and Blue (can't remember new name, Ranger maybe?) were still there when I got him, and he was nearly their size. I suspect that he's going to be a little guy. I weighed him on Wednesday, so he's now 43.8 lbs at 10.5 months.

They can't bear to miss anything!

I think that's a good description of Malinois, too.
Sounds like Izze when she was younger, like insaid her arthritus in her back stopped a lot of the jumping escapes, acts then she settled to tearing the fence apart :/

Harry looked at life like he was a paranoid secret service agent. Stan looks at it like a clown that performs at children's birthday parties. I realize that Stan is only 10 1/2 months, but Harry was a really serious dog even at 8 weeks. I'm not sure that Stan is even going to be a passable watchdog.
LOL This describes Riley and Aura pretty well too, although I don't think Riley is quite as intense as Harry, but he has some of the same issues. Aura is very much happy go lucky and thinks everyone is put on this planet to love her. She is far more lovey dovey than Riley too.

What are the generalized personality differences btw male & female malinois?

With ACDs females are usually less lovey dovey, & males are more so. Females tend to be tougher physically & more dutiful: there is a saying "females love you but males are IN love with you" lol. Also I have read that it's best if you are female to get a male dog, & vice versa is there any truth to this?
LOL sounds about the same. Boy Belgians can be so lovey and needy and dorky with their people.

As to if you should get a male or female, much is personal preference.

LOL I think that is about the same as Savvy jumping the 4' fence as a little 3 month old! The boarding kennel story is too funny - what a crazy boy!

Rune and Austin, they were both average sized I'd say.

Here's a shot of both in the ring, Austin is the darker one:

Holy crap is that 3rd dog in the ring a Malinois? The hair seems insane for a mal (tho I know you can have fluffy Mals, I just never figured one would show up in a ring with THAT much coat).

Stan bros!!! I never got to meet Austin. He was gone by the time I went and got Stan. According to Debbie, Rune is in the low 60s already. Apparently he gains weight easily. He does look bigger than Austin in that pic, but not much. I'm not talked to Pam (Austin's owner) in a while. Their breeder says Stan is the smallest. We are fine with that. I want him to get a little bigger so he can fit into some of the cool stuff I had for Harry, though.

So, your impressions of them were favorable?

Yes very much! Both really nice, happy boys who seemed very sound and were good looking. They made me laugh because they both got a little too wound up in the ring a couple times and didn't want to stand or were trying to gallop. Very cute :) Rune seems on the ball crazy side of things for sure. They both seemed to like to have fun. I have a picture on my thread in the photo section "Mals Gone Wild" that shows them both..ummm...not stacking:

I bet Stan will get a bit bigger. Stan - grow so you can get cool stuff!

I was at a trade show this weekend and there was just a ton of mals! A few Tervs. This one gal had a little spitfire Mal puppy too. I just love watching them with their people, there's just something extra there.
