My doberman Penelope was tested yesterday for Cushings Syndrome after displaying pretty much every symptom. My vet just called and confirmed that not only does she have it but that it is adrenal based. He wants her in for xrays tomorrow and said that surgery would probably be her best bet for survival. He said that without it the illness could cause tumors in other parts of her body but that the surgery is very high risk. Has anyone had a dog with this diagnosis who has come through okay? He also said that he would need to treat her with Lysodren (sp?) first to supress it. I'm just so scared...she's my baby and I couldn't stand to lose her. :( We don't care what it costs, we just want the best possible treatment.

I'm very sorry to hear about your poor baby. I know nothing about dobermans, but I wish you all the best.

So sorry to hear about Penelope. Try posting this in the health section so maybe someone familiar with cushings can see it.

Do I have the person for you to talk to!
http://www.healinghorsesnaturally.com/
I know this is a horse site :) I and others have consulted with her on herbs for our dogs with health problems. She also does consultations with some of the local groomers with work related joint problems ;)
Sharon Stebeleski is an amazing herbalist. Go on to consultation or ask a herbalist.
My friend has a horse recently diagnosed with Cushings disease. Her Vet gave her no hope. Sharon recommended a special blend of herbs, I believe it consisted of Chaste Tree Berries, Milk Thistle seeds for liver support, hawthorn to support her heart, kelp for thyroid, b vitamins, and a probiotic--Fastrack. Her horse has come around 110%.
