Answer to Mystic Realm
To Mystic Realm: I have owned three dogs over the last twenty years. A female cockapoo that lived until she was 20 years old, and two Belgian Sheperds that lived until 12 and 13 years. I think I take good care of the dogs I choose to own. These puppies came about unexpectedly. A neighbor let her male cockapoo get at the female I own one month before the other owner knew I was having my female spayed at her regular vet appt. My female had eight puppies which I was not expecting but could not bring myself to have the Vet abort. Most of them have gone to good homes, two the the owner of the male that got at my dog leaving these two who we can't offer out because of this problem. When I read the thread from 2005 it gave me hope that I could help them and have them live a happy and healthy life bringing joy to someone lucky enough to adopt them into their family.
If I can't get them well I will take care of them myself as long as they are not in pain. I will do what it takes. These puppies have never been around other dogs other than their mother who is disease free. (The male that got at her is also disease free) My dogs live in a very large backyard, 2 acres and we exercise them there, they are never around other dogs. That is why I choose to own at least two at a time so they have playmates other than my kids.
I do agree with you Mystic Realm, that owning a dog is a decision not to be made lightly and a person should have the resources to take care of them. I did not expect to be taking care of eight little puppies for as long as I did. Shots, dew claws and tails docked for these eight little guys have taken quite an UNEXPECTED toll on my finances. So, Mystic Realm, please don't judge someone else without knowing the full circumstances around the situation.
