ok, i posted a little while back, asking for help on selecting a breed of dog. and despite the fact that i have been in Europe for the past three months (returning home to CA on Tuesday) i have been searching for a pup.

I think I may have found one. it is an Aprox. 8 week old Lab-Boxer (and maybe pit) mix, male. it was found abandoned, and this lady took it in, so her friend wouldn't take it to the shelter. she has gotten the pup its first round of shots and worming, and vet check up.

she is trying to re home it because she only has an apt and another dog, so neither the time nor space to make the life long commitment to the pup.

I have been communicating to the woman through email and she seems very determined to get the dog into a good home. and because of my age (20) she has been grilling me on my housing-financial situation, and trying to determine if I would be a good parent for the pup. so i don't doubt her intentions and care thus far of the dog.

my only concern is the fact that pup was probably separated from its family too early and may have some developmental repercussions? could this be possible or am I over analyzing?

thanks for your help guys. and I look forward to your responses.

I wouldn't worry about it to be honest, just do the best with what you have.

The dog won't grow up wild and aggressive as long as you use your time wisely.

I think sometimes people are a bit anal over things - you can't generalise with these things - if someone gets a young pup and does NOTHING with it - then yes, expect problems - if someone gets a young pup and spends a little time socialising and bonding - then you're quite fine.

That's not to say pups SHOULDN'T be with mum for 8 weeks, merely stating that with the proper care a young pup isn't going to turn into a mauling, unsocialised mess.

I wouldn't worry about the age. We got one of our dogs at 6 1/2 weeks and he is such a sweetheart and is now over 2 years old.
