Anesthesia Sensitive Breeds and Teeth Cleaning?

Scirrocco needs his teeth done bad. Because of the diet of race dogs his teeth are horrible. Half are rotting adn his breath OMG. BUt Greyhounds have no body fat so putting them under anesthesia is VERY RISKY. PLus the fact that he has epilepsy we cant find a vet that we like that will do it. What else could we do? And for those of you who are vets, vet techs how is it handled?

What about a raw diet? I have seen some wonderful results from dogs with bad teeth. The bones naturally clean the teeth.

Thats what he was on. And he gets bones all the time but they need to be professionally done.

In his case then I would suggest a vet who can do a cleaning without anesthetic. They are more difficult to find, but they are out there.

Ok thanks. We talked to one that said it had to be done under anethesia and ours wont do it without it either

so what do *they* suggest you do??

it is my understanding that greyhounds are just really sensitive to one certain type of anesthesia drug, but if you use something else to induce- ketamine/valium or propofol-- it's not a huge deal. certainly they'll need to be careful, but geez. it's their job to do this kind of thing. greyhounds have notoriously bad teeth.

Leave it or pull most of his teeth

We have been told because of his epilepsy it is really risky to do pretty much any that they feel comfortable using.
