When my sister got home from work yesterday he year and a half old rhodesian ridgeback was very lethargic. He wouldnt move much. She took him straight to the vet and they think he might have meningitis.

From what i know meningitis is an infection of the spinal fluid (i had it myself as a child) and they are going to a specialist today. They said they will probably have to do a spinal tap.

The vet took blood work and did xrays of his spine. The blood looked fine except for high white blood cell count and the xray didnt show anything out of place.

Does anyone have any experience with meningitis? What are treatments?

Thanks. I am worried about the big lug.

Our gsp had it when I was a kid and unfortunately died from it. :( we spent I think 4k on a specialist and no luck. I guess though bacterial vs virus have varying recovery rates?

thanks for the response. Scary how fast this stuff can happen. He is getting and MRI to rule out slipped discs and any tumors. Then a spinal tap. Hes getting it done right now....

Still worried about him!

They gave him a steroid injection and put him on oral steroids. they seemed to him him and he started to feel better. My sister stayed home with him yesterday and today put him back in his crate and went to work. When she came home there was bloody diarrhea everywhere and it just kept leaking out of him. He is back at the vent on an IV and getting antibiotics.

Anyone have any idea what this could be?

The vet thinks it might be caused from the high doses of steroids. He is a year and a half old Rhodesian ridgeback and is up to date on all his vaccines. Could it be parvo?? We are so worried about him.

He was at the vet on an IV till 8 pm last night and my sister picked him up (didnt want to leave him when no one was there). They dropped him back off at the vet to put him back on IV so his stomach could rest. The blood stopped coming out of him, so they hope he is getting better.

The scariest thing is no one can tell her what they think is wrong. She is doing everything she can for him, hes so sweet and young i hope he pulls through!

Thanks for your vibes! he needs them!
