Our dog loves people, but always barks when they enter the house. We have just shut her into the kitchen ( half door there ) when people enter the dining room so she will not be right at the door barking when the enter. We have had her about 3 years now. Can we yet at this point teach her to not bark when people enter the house? Of course I would like to think that if someone broke into our home at night that she would still sound the alarm but not when we are opening the door to let friends & family in!

That's a tough one. You really don't want her to completely stop barking when someone is at the door, just stop when she sees it's a family member or friend.

When someone is at the door, try clipping her leash on and make her sit when she sees it is someone she knows. Then YOU open the door. That's the key. If someone on the outside opens the door, she needs to know it's okay to bark. Make her stay in the sit until your company gets inside and have them greet her and pet her. When she does this successfully, praise her like crazy, just don't get her wound up!

When she doesn't sit nicely long enough for your company to come in, put her in a room where she can't see what's going on for awhile. There's no punishment worse for a dog than being banished.
