Animal Relief Donations - Katrina

I'm getting ready to donate to the animals. Wanted to do a poll (don't know how!), but who do you think are the best agencies to donate to? I want to make sure the $ is spent wisely. I thought HSUS, but a large portion of your money may go to administrative crap because they're so large. Any pointers?

I have no idea...I'd also be interested in know the answer!!

I was planning to donate a little money when I get payed Friday, but apparently I'm going to have to buy groceries this week. Anyway, the group I was planning to donate to was Noah's Wish. They currently are helping with animal rescue in Slidell. Last time I looked, they were taking care of nearly 300 animals that had been lost or abandoned following Hurricane Katrina. I'm kind of partial to these guys, EARS - Emergency Animal Rescue Service part of United Animal Nations. They are a team trained to go into natural disasters and remove animals, and they work with local shelters getting animals out, coordinating shelter space and such. They generally don't leave until all the animals are rehomed.

Wow... there are SO many choices. I just want to find the one that's best and doing what's right for the poor animals... still can't figure it out...

Perhaps find out where some of the animals rescued are sheltered/kenneled at and donate directly to those places. That way you wouldn't have to worry so much about administrative issues, or what not.

But I'm first worried about getting the babies rescued to begin with... to take care of them later is later...

Is you human society taking donations? Our human society collected food, crates, collars, etc. for animals and is bringing everything down.
