What do you do with your ribbons?

So I was wondering, how do you display ribbons and rosettes your dogs get?

When I had my own place I had one wall in the living room dedicated to each dog. They also had a lot less stuff than they do now :p I put flat ribbons in a frame large enough to put all the ribbons for a title in the frame, hung any rosettes from the edge of the frame, and put the title certificate above or next to the ribbons.

Now, I have a lot of rosettes, a lot of certificates, and a good number of flat ribbons. The UKC ribbons are nice because they have a string to hang them from, but the AKC ribbons are all flat with nothing to hang them with. I'm thinking frames are the only way to go with those. Are there ribbon/rosette hangers/racks or something?

I have much less wall space than i used to have. Most of my open wall space is at a 45 degree angle to the floor, so can't really hang much on it :(

ETA: How do you un-crincle ribbons? I have a couple that got a little wrinkled in the boxes when I was moving. I was thinking maybe an iron on low heat, but not sure how safe that is...

I iron mine on low, you can test it on a 2nd or 3rd place one if you're worried. :p

I'm saving up flat ones for a quilt. There was a lady I knew who showed chinchillas that had boxes and boxes of flat ribbons, and that's what she did with them all. Made quilts. The rosettes go on the wall.

Ditto the iron and a little water. I usually like to press them in a pillow case so I don't cook the letters

I have several boxes full of old ribbons, medals, and trophies. Usually these days I donate them back to the club after the show.

I took a lesson from hores shows when Mick was alive, and hung his on a hanger which I then hung on a closet door (he was a mixed breed- no official competions- he won stuff at some local fund raiser and 4H shows). I used a handmade bandana he won in an internet contest to cover the hanger. After he died, we put it all in a shadow box that is hanging in the hall upstairs. It also has his therapy bandana & ID as well as a CGC patch in it.

For now, Caleb's ribbons and certificates are in his "baby book", a three ring notebook with sheet protecters. The the title rosette from when he got his RN is too big for the book, so it's in the entertainment center. Eventually they will go in a shadow box. I want to do one for each title. My husband seems to think we won't have room to hang all the shadow boxes, tho.

Ironing works, but often spraying with water and hanging works too.

I have a log home, so they get stuck everywhere. I haven't done much showing in the last few years (stupid school lol) but I have one wall where they are layered, or all the CPE flat ribbons from one trial are pinned together.

I made some pillows too. About 40 ribbons a pillow

I started putting mine in shadow boxes all nice... but the sheer amount of space the shadow boxes would eventually take up started getting overwhelming and didn't make sense anymore.
So I have a big box for them right now. =P

I have some of the more recent title certs in certificate frames, and if the ribbon that came with the title is pretty I'll hang it with the frame in my office.. That's in theory though as it's been over a year and a half since I tore all that down at the old house, and none of it's back up.

Palcement ribbons, Q ribbons, lower title ribbons -- that stuff is all in a couple boxes in the attic. So not much help there.

Placements without a Q I no longer pick up unless it marked an important milestone. Qs with placements are tied together.

I have a set of ribbon racks to hold all of our Q and title ribbons and then I frame our title certificates.

Here they are before they were hung up this fall:

Mine are hung on the way wih sticky tac. If they have a hook on them I'll usually hammer it down flat. Before I had everything separated, but now since I want to unearth our 2011 stuff I need to combine and think about doing something different.

How does one place without Q'ing?
You can still get placements if there's no dogs in your class, dogs did worse then you, etc. I have quite a few of these from early years. I like the idea of combining ribbons for titles, though for us in CPE each frame would have to be twice as big as the last LOL

Oh that must vary by venue. For us if you don't Q you don't have a chance of placing. If no one qualified then no one places, no matter how many dogs there are.

Really? What venue? Yeah if you have a time, you are "eligible" to still be in the running for placements. Though CPE is also split up between different levels, heights, and class (regular/veteran, specialist, enthusist)

Wad them up and find them somewhere weird later. LOL

When I showed my horse I had tons of ribbons, and huge ones, so I kind of got over keeping them by time I showed my dog. I LOVE the pillow idea, though. Maybe I should start hanging onto them.

Yea the placement without Q is in USDAA - generally Kes would place 2nd or 3rd out of 6-10 dogs in his height class because he got faults but wasn't eliminated.

AKC (agility and obedience) and UKC (obedience) and APDT (rally)

Kim & I did CPE for two trials and we're I think 3 legs away from our Level 3 title...have 21 legs lol... So I'm somewhat familiar with CPE but it's been a while (2010 I think?). I guess I just never noticed the placement without qualifying thing.

Yeah I was shocked when Sloan took second without a Q at NADAC. In Akc, no Q no place.

We have them on the wall hung on wires, I'd like a better set up though. The more we get te more specific I get and I start pulling all wave winnings and only keep finals for dock/splash dogs. I still keep pretty much all the AKC stuff because we earned those with hard work.

How does one place without Q'ing?
most agility venues do this. Makes sense to me. In obed its fairly easy to Q, at least compared to agility. I have seen courses where maybe one or two dogs (over all dog heights) have made a clean run. The Q rate in AAC (in particular) is relatively low so placement ribbons go out regardless of Qs... I have quite a few 1sts that didn't come with Qs :D

I typically don't take placements unless they 'mean' something.

I don't have lots of ribbons yet, but I painted a wall in Sunny's room to display them on. I keep meaning to take a picture but I never remember.

I really like that quilt/pillow idea! I may have to borrow it ;)

I'm thinking I may do something special for milestones (like if Sunny ever gets her ATChC) like a shadow box or something.
