Hey there!

We've had our Rocko for about two and a half years now. We adopted him from the SPCA when he was 8 weeks old. They told us he was a Rottweiler/Akita mix. As he grew up, we realized this was definitely not what he was! We expected him to end up weighing close to 100 pounds, but full grown he's somewhere between 45-50 pounds. Now that he's an adult, I'm actually pretty glad he is the size that he is! I've heard all sorts of opinions on what breed he might be, and now I'm looking for some more!

I've included some pictures, but here is a little bit more about Rocko. He's very playful and energetic but also very sweet and cuddly. He does not bark unless he is engaged in some very intense playing, and even then it's a very forced bark, and every time I am surprised. While he doesn't bark, he is a great whiner! He doesn't like to be left alone at home, but we have learned that the less closed doors there are, the better. He absolutely hates water and acts as if we are trying to hurt him whenever we give him a bath or gentle spray-down with the hose. Fortunately, he has very short fur and doesn't need baths too often. He acts like a cat quite often. He licks himself a lot, sleeps on the couch where our heads are, and is best friends with our cat. He plays well with almost every dog he has ever met but is finally starting to act more like a dog than a puppy. He's very smart but also very stubborn. Training him to do things is fun because he decides when he's going to listen to you!

What a cutie, definitely a pit bull mix. Pit bulls can get fly ears, it's common, without mixing but something about him says mixed. With what though, I'm not sure.

I'd also say pit mix, maybe with cattle dog or any number of other things. Basenjis aren't very commonly found in shelters, but I suppose that is possible. I knew a pit X basenji that looked pretty similar except with drop ears.

That head screams "pit bull." I don't see kelpie or basenji. Those are both breeds unlikely to find in shelters. Not impossible, but I wouldn't assume it's the most likely mix.
I really can't guess what else he has in him. I'm thinking maybe a herding breed, like an ACD or BC? Lots of breeds (including bully breeds) can produce the black & white as well as the brindle marks.
If he were mine I'd just call him an adorable pit bull mix. :)
