I agree they do not come from puddles or ponds. they come from rice paddies.
They shouldn't live in cups. They do need heated tanks. but my betas are very happy and colourful in their one gallons. and if I could afford and if i had the room. they would all have bigger tanks. But In MY opinion the are fine where they are.
