I was just wondering if anyone else's dog has been diagnosed with Chronic Bronchitis. My Bear was diagnosed 3 years ago and is doing very well, but it took 2 specialists to diagnose him properly (he had a cough that would not go away). His cough is now gone thanks to low doses of Prednisone twice a week. I worry about the long term effects of the steroid, but his cough was hurting his health as well. IF anyone else has a dog with this, maybe we could compare notes. Thanks.

My Mom had a little Terrier mix with the same problem. The vet had her give Roo old fashioned Creomulsion for Children. It worked like a charm.

Prednisone is deadly stuff - linked to tumors. I've personally seen two of our family dogs and one of the cats suddenly develop tumors with weeks of receiving prednisone. Now research is finally acknowledging that there is a link.

I've never heard of Creomulsion. Is this something you can buy over the counter? I will ask my vet about this. Thanks for the info.

It's an old fashioned children's cough medicine; just an over-the-counter syrup. Our old vet was really good about common sense kinds of things like that. He even showed me how to 'stitch' a cut with super-glue gel. You have to use the gel, not the liquid, but it was originally developed to be a better alternative to stitches. It works like a charm; you just have to hold the edges of the wound together for 20 seconds or so after application to give it a chance to dry.

Putting a smudge of Vicks on the upper lip helps too.

I used it for Gonzo quite often when he was having trouble with respiratory infections when he had FIV. At first he REALLY didn't like it, but he figured out pretty quickly that it made a big difference and he quit trying to clean it off.

I miss that cat every single day - and will as long as I live.
