We're training, just not tricks. Last week was entirely beefing up their stays and recalls. Well... Mia really, but Summer wanted to play too. In particular having Mia stay while sitting in front of a jump (it's so tempting!)

A quick video of T doing perch work and working some tight turns in position.

ETA - I'm working on getting Kimma to roll herself up in a blanket, but it's slow going. We're at the point where she will hold on to the edge of the blanket (well we are using a towel) and roll on her side. For tonight's session with it I will stop rewarding as heavily for that and HOPEFULLY she will roll all the way over. She did it a few times and I had a HUGE party, but it's not consistent.

Here's where we are with Mu's limp.

I need some ideas on how to get her to move forward WITH her paw in the air. Should I put the paw up on cue first?

(cue Erin running around like a headless chicken)

I just sent this to the head trainer guy at schutzhund club, it's a list of stuff related to getting Kes ready for his IPO-V in 8 weeks. o_O

Annnnnd working on getting Aeri BH ready since her brain has returned on the field finally. I may be insane....
just saw this when it was bumped back into the current topics, but are you sure you can pick your dog up by the collar? Nobody is ever going to mistake me for an official rulebook that's for sure, but I was always under the impression that a SchH I was the only place you could "pick up" your dog in the blind.

Since everything dropped "schutzhund this year and is now "IPO" we could never "pick up" our dog at any level in IPO, it was always a call out. But beyond that, i've have only seen people fail for touching their dog, a collar grab was almost always grounds for failure. I'd check on those to be sure. I could be wrong, but just going off past experience.

LOL at the beginning "Ouch, that's really painful!" Jackson's nails are sooo sharp, I'm always saying 'ouch!' when he paws at me.

Anyways, I lured Jackson with a treat to get him limping and moving forward at the same time.

Basically did this:

I do have a "did you hurt your paw?" cue with him too where he simply holds up his left foot as if it's hurt, lol. That came about while teaching limp, he kept offering that so we made it another trick.

Lol, she's started pawing me REALLY hard since we started working on this. Apparently, if I don't want a regular paw I must want the SUPERFORCE paw.

That's actually the way I started this trick when I first considered it (last year?). I'm not opposed to luring her forward, once we get the paw in the air but she didn't get it all when I was helping her hold her paw up. Her shaped behaviors are a million times stronger than her captured or lured ones. I think I'll put the paw up on cue, like you have it, and then combine that and walking forward. I want to see Jackson's limp!! You should put up a video!

Teaching Limit to indicate on explosives elements. I want a sit and stare at the "hot box" and I've been letting him offer behaviors. He has the sit pretty quickly and then the stare comes - it's very exaggerated, Jason calls it the vulture sit LOL

Go Limit! Also, when the heck did he get so big?!
Thanks! I know, I don't know how he keeps getting HUGE! The growth spurt has slowed down now so he will actually eat the amount he needs to not look like a scarecrow. I've been feeding him 2 cups 2x a day and then he gets food roll when we "work" for scent detection. That has really helped put the weight back on him.

I just signed up for Silvia Trkman's puppy/tricks class. I'm officially doing Finn but I'm starting Limit as well. I am going to sign up again in January to "officially" do Limit - so I can post vids and what-not. OR if he catches on quickly, maybe just pay the fee to sign up a second dog...we'll see. Anyway, I have never shaped before, only did luring really. How fun! Today was our first session and both Finn and Limit caught on really quickly. This type of training is ideal for Finny because his nerves are not fantastic so he can think things out and do them at his pace. He's brilliant though so we went forward very quickly. Limit is a frustration barker and a bit of a brat so we went a bit slower but it was so fun to see him thinking, working things out. I'm really excited!

Also, Limit's handstand is now totally vertical on a wall (previously we were still doing slanted surfaces), independent of hand-help from me - yay! There is video but Jason hasn't taken it off his phone yet.

In essence, I've really gotten back into training the last couple of weeks and can't wait to continue :)

Love the Limit handstand, backwards weaving Trav, targeting Pepper, limping Mu & more. Love all the videos!

I'll have to get a video of some of Jack's tricks. This year we've conquered backwards leg weaving (Jack's absolute FAVORITE) and limping and worked on handstands.

I LOVE the backwards weave! How did you start that? Mu's limping trick is coming along pretty well - I ask her "Is it your paw?" and she holds up her paw. However, if I do not click in her required time frame she decides that holding it up is not enough and I must want movement. Which results in this crazy paw up FLAILEVERYWHERE movement wherein she almost falls over. :lol-sign:

k9krazee, you should totally get video. :)
