I haven't been on here in a while, but had the biggest scare of my life. Was out walking Zoe two weeks ago, when I noticed her licking her paw. Then I saw blood, and a lot of it. I snatched her up (not easy with a 58 pound dog) and raced her to the animal hospital (why do these things always happen on the weekend!?) My daughter sat in the back with Zoe with a towel wrapped on her leg to keep pressure on it.
She had to be anesthetized and had stitches. The doc said it was the second worse laceration she'd ever seen, and 20 more minutes of bleeding we may have lost her. My heart about stopped at that.
My husband, who had been 2 hours away when this happened, went searching later for what cut her and found a broken bottle on the path. I'm glad we found it so no other dog could get hurt.
She is fine now- got the stitches out on Saturday, and has been running full speed chasing squirrels and birds again.
Oh...and I now have pet insurance. It's something I've been putting off for 3 years, but learned from this experience!
