They started laying on Sunday :) Not all are laying yet but at least half are. Here's today's collection:

AH AH AH!!

Maybe I want quail again... :p

Those are some seriously pretty eggs, too bad chickens didn't lay eggs like that.

Oh and the black blob in the background of the photo? That's Mira hoping I drop an egg :p

Are these for eating or hatching?

Exciting regardless!!! What type of quail are they?
These are for eating. They just started laying Sunday so the eggs are getting bigger and better formed by the day. I will be hatching some out but I need to build an incubator first, and will probably give them a month or two to really get going so I can judge the best eggs to hatch.

They are Coturnix (Japanese) Quail

How beautiful they are. I love quail. I love seeing the Moms and all the chicks in a line, walking behind the Mom...such neat birds. Good luck with the hatching when you get to it. That should be a lot of fun.

More eggs? (Yesterday's, cell phone picture)

Don't worry I'll get over the novelty and stop posting quail eggs pictures soon lol

I hope you don't. And when you incubate them, it would be interesting to see how that's going. I think they're beautiful and not something everyone sees so it's cool to see your pictures. I think my grandmother had quail. She also had ducks and chickens. But it was when I was very, very young and don't really remember. But my Mom has told me about it.

Those are gorgeous eggs! I can't wait until you hatch some out--are quail particularly broody?
Coturnix are notoriously horrible brooders. So I'll be incubating since I don't have any broody chickens (or any chickens at all).

What the quail are looking like these days:

Sassy hen doesn't like the paparazzi

Dan the rooster, still a little fluffed from his dust bath
