help - i can not see anybody's pictures

i am unable to see pictures that people have attached to their posts.

all that i see is a box about 1x1 inch with a red square, a green circle, and a blue triangle within the box.... but none of the pictures will load in.

is there something within my profile settings that needs to be turned on?
something in my internet settings that i may have neglected?
