I actually got this idea from the show "Its Me Or The Dog" where they delt with a dog who jumped constantly. Now Sawyer isn't a bad jumper but he does mouth alot. Which I understand a puppy will do but I have him to the point where he has learned with my mom that its not okay. Of course he slips up but he is learning.
Now with guests everyone thinks its cute to invite him to jump up on them and don't mind him chomping down on their hands. But im thinking as he grows they airn't going to think either is so cute. So I made a sign that says "Training In Progress: Please Ignore Puppy Until Calm". My HOPE is that people will read it and do as it says. That way he learns that he doesent get attention when he jumps up or mouths anyone not just those who live in the house. Im thinking the sign will be useful as he grows older as well.
Like I said its not a major problem right now. The sign is there to prevent it from getting to that level. I am determined to raise him to be well behaved.
He already knows he must sit before entering or exciting the house and let me walk through the door way first . He also knows when we come in the house from a walk he cannot pull on the leash he has to sit and wait for me to remove his leash first. I will not remove it unless he sits. He also is learning to sit and wait until I tell him its okay to eat out of his bowl. He is extremely smart and catches on quickly for his age.
