We don't know for sure what Mike is - Staffie/Lab is our best guess. :)

The towel actually didn't rip too much. Steve kept taking it away and making them do other stuff. And making Mikey drop it just for practise. Which I think is good for him to know. He's got some pretty powerful jaws. Steve was playing tug-o-war with him and actually picked the dog up by the towel. It was pretty funny but I'm sure not that good for his mouth.

Maverick's a Newfie cross too. Mostly newfie I think but his nose is more lab-like and he's not as big. He doesn't have as much hair either I don't think. Well, he has made me fall in love with the breed. :)

The original labrador came from the Newfie and some spaniel i don't remember anymore..i imagine it was the newfie that gave the breed the eagerness to please and the intelligence that they have..i believe the spaniel was for the birdiness of things. Says a lot for Newfies!

Yeah. I've read a couple different backgrounds about them. They've been around for awhile surprisingly.

This is a bit of what I've read:
The History of the Newfoundland Dog - It is believed that the Newfoundland Dog originated in Newfoundland and is a descendant of the Great Pyrenees. Known as both a working dog and water dog, Newfoundlands were commonly found pulling carts or on the deck of a boat. With its webbed feet and strong physique, many a story has been told of men, women and children beings rescued from the seas. Even today one can hear stories about the lifesaving abilities of newfs.

Well there's more but it was long lol

MAverick looks like a big bear on his hind legs lol. He looks either like he's newfie with lab or setter with that face.

And i also looooooooove Mikey's coat he looks like someones down patch work on him with two different kinds of brown.

He does have a neat coat doesn't he. :)

I was trying to brush Maverick again today. He only puts up with it for about five minutes which is enough time to do a patch about 4 inches square. Not even a quarter of one of his legs! He's shedding. I got a big ball of hair from that. I guess I'll just have to keep at it. Maybe I'll give him some peanut butter. :)

I am just so in awe of Maverick.(Don't you get me wrong - Mikey is adorable too :D ). I just have a thing for Newfoundlands, Greater Swiss Mountain dogs, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Great Pyrenees. I just love how the Newfies are so gentle, yet so big. They are gorgeous. I just showed my husband the pics you have here, and he really liked Maverick. He is just gorgeous.

LOL! Do you find that black fur everywhere? Brady has a lot of fur, but not that mcuh, and for some reason it likes to collect under my kitchen table. I pull big balls of fur out of there almost every day. It is usually a mix of gray (from the cat) with Brady's white fur. More white than gray though. ;)

this is bizarre...and for some reason it seems it's only me, but I'm not able to see anyone's pictures anymore. Not the token red 'x' (like maybe they just didn't download or something).....I just don't see anything. This just started. WAAAAAAAAAAAA, I don't want to miss pics! Is anyone else having a problem???
