Any ideas how to make your own dog biscuit??

As in one large biscuit, perhaps bone shaped, and a dog friendly way to decorate it??? For a present??

I've seen bone shaped cake pans. For icing, I've used any of the following:
baby food & whipped cream cheese

canned dog food

peanutbutter

I second the peanut butter for frosting! What dog doesn't like PB? I bet you could frost the bone and use a bit of food coloring in some PB and pipe it through for writing!

As for the biscuit, you could always use a recipe that can be rolled out....then I have every confidence you could cut a big bone shape with a butter knife

When I used to make biscuits (before my dogs became deprived) I used to use people recipes, but substitute applesauce, etc for sugar. Biscuits/cookies are pretty forgiving, so you can substitute quite a lot.

While I did not eat them myself, my dogs did not complain.

I used to make these all the time.

treats:


3 cups of whole wheat or rice flour
1 egg
1 mashed up banana
1/2 cup Crunchy peanut butter
3/4 cups of water

Mix all ingredients together.
Knead until firm
Roll out and cut into any shape
Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees.
Leave in the oven for at least 2-3 hours to harden.



cake:

2 cups water
1/4 cup mashed banana
1/8 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 Tbsp. honey
3 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup dried bananas
1/2 Tbsp. baking powder

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Mix together water, mashed banana, vanilla, egg and honey. In another bowl, mix flour, dried bananas and baking powder. Add wet ingredients to dry and mix well.

Pour into an 8-inch greased cake pan and bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Frosting:
8 ounces low-fat cream cheese
3 tsp. carob powder
1 tsp. vanilla

Beat all ingredients together in a small bowl until smooth. Spread over the cake.

I used to make/try all kinds of dog treats....biscuits and 'ice cream' (yogurt/peanutbutter blend) stuff and for the life of me I can't find my recipes! These days I just throw stuff on the dehydrater....so much easier, LOL

HA! I found one in my files....the rest must be on my back up drive from the old computer.

Anyway, I used to make these for Phoebe and Orson...

Peanut Butter Doggie Cookies
1/2 Cup Peanut Butter
1 Cup whole wheat flour
1 Cup Oats (quick oats are fine)
2 eggs
1/4 Cup water- or enough to moisten mixture

Preheat to 350.
Mix all well. Scoop out by spoonful,(adjust size for your dog) roll into balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and press criss cross with floured fork (just like human pb cookies) These can be rolled out and cut into shapes if you prefer.
Bake until starting to brown, cool completely.

Now, I never tried to use this recipe to make ONE BIG BISCUIT so I have no idea if it would cook up right or not.
