Ha ha Sounds like Teagan. She barks her freaking little head off then anything seems off in the yard and then you can't get her to shut up lol. I've learned to accept that.

Mine all shut up one the person leaves, or if they start doing something (like working out by the shop) they won't shut up if the person hangs around in the driveway..which is good.

With a broad list of traits there's a wide range of breeds that could fit the description. Many of the molossers and terriers come to mind. I think the basenji might fit as well, depending on how you're defining protective and what level you are looking for.
