All those headlines make me sooo mad, but for a different reason.
The animal shelter can't even accurately identify a dog's breed, so who the heck is qualified to decide what breed all of these "attack" dogs are? It's so stupid, and totally nullifies the validity of dog bite statistics. And Dakotah, you can get a rottie within the standard that is the same size as a lab. ![]() There was a house that burned down on the news last month, and a "hero dog" saved the family by getting them out. They said he was quote "some kind of mix". Then they showed a picture. he seriously looked like a pit bull with uncropped ears. You KNOW that if he had bitten someone he would have been a "killer pit bull", but because he saved his family's lives he was a mix.

I'm another one of the people who is sick and tired of the pit bull bogeyman. I am not a pit person, nor am I likely to be anytime in the near future (due to my chosen sports), but I have always loved the pits. The greatest dog I ever knew was a pit x english bulldog. To me he was everything a dog should be - open, friendly, playful, athletic, patient and a true man-stopping protection dog in a pinch who was safe with kids and friends and other dogs as long as they behaved in a socially acceptable fashion. Truly the sort of dog most people dream of owning, Rin Tin Tin, if you will. Of course, I have known many other great pits and pit mixes and so few with behavior, health or temperament problems. I love them.
I ran across a great hero dog story the other day. I was happy to read about a great bull breed, but suspicious that when he was a hero he wasn't called a pit. He was a Staffordshire bull terrier. I'm not saying he isn't. I just wonder if he had attacked someone if his breed name would have changed to "pit bull". Anyway, here's to one great bully: http://thehousebreakingbible.com/for...read.php?t=107 |

I walked our 90 lb Rottie when I was 12 years old. He was the sweetest, gentlest dog ever. : )

What pisses me off is no one local is afraid of my Pit Bull, the people who know him personally that is. I went to a Kennel Club Clinic sponsered by a local kennel club in the city 2 weeks ago because I was bored and decided to get nails clipped that day on 2 of my dogs just because I wanted to see who is behind these things big adverts ... when I walked in with Nemos this is what happened ... all the dogs in there were yappin' and some were loose just roaming in the building .... which really I didn't care until I felt the opposition to my Nemos. Most the people working there were from the Local Kennel Club ... everyone moved away from me and Nemos .. I mean when we walked in they moved against the walls and to the corners but left the loose dogs greet him ... he's a love bug so he and the dogs were fine together. I was filling out the slip for nails and this lady runs over to him turns her back and puts her hand infron of his face ... not to pet him otherwise she would have .. she just stood her back to him with her infront of his face. WTF ???
I took his body and faced his ass to her and made him stand stay, I dropped the leash, walked to the opposite side of the building and bought a large metal pin that said I love my APBT, put it on and went back to him. You know what that lady said to me from across that room with all those loose running yappin' dogs in there ? She told me never to do that again. WTF ??? These are Kennel Club people who run the local shows and represent that kennel club. Meanwhile two of the loose dogs a shaggy something or other kinda looked like a Newfie mix fought a beagle and do you think anyone would break it up ? Noooooo, they just all stood there hovering around and noone would grab that big dog off that beagle. WTF ??? My new friend held Nemos for me and I got the Newfie mix off that beagle ... and I yelled to the crowed ... don't ever do nothing again. Soooo I'm convinced it's not only the public and media giving these dogs a bad name ... it's certain kennel clubs them selves. That my friends is gonna change.

I LOVE MY PITS!!!
I am a professional "Pit Bull Dog Trainer" along with my husband. Although, I love and train all breeds, Bully Breeds are my favorite. These dogs get a bad rap because of irresponsible owners. The one thing I preach is RESPONSIBLE OWNERSHIP OF ALL BREEDS!!!!!!! NOT JUST PIT BULLS!!! Here is a bit about my work with pit bulls. http://www.warwickonline.com/warwick...pdf=1&id=33622 and my most recent work: See page 8 of the magazine http://www.theanimalprint.com/current.html |

I cannot even bare the thought of walking outside and people hating my dog for what he looks like, not even knowing anything about my dog or even the breed in general. I wouldn't be able to bare it. I feel so much for the people who own pit bulls or that sort of dog, who get crap all the time for it. I don't know how you guys do it and I have so much respect for you fighting against these ignorant people. I just wish people could stop reacting as one would in high school. It's like a rumor that people don't know if it's true or not, but they believe it anyway. It's disturbing. It's utterly disturbing. How people can read titles and believe it whole heartedly without asking questions, or even the right questions, and then "take action" is utterly disturbing. *sigh* |
