Coroner: Drug overdose killed Strode, not attack by pit bulls

Toxicology results reveal a 22-year-old Springfield woman died from a drug overdose in her home and was not killed by two dogs, Sangamon County Coroner Susan Boone said Monday.

Amber Strode was found dead Jan. 27 inside the home she shared with her boyfriend in the 100 block of South Wheeler Avenue. Two adult male dogs police described as pit bulls belonging to the boyfriend also were inside the ranch house, and police said the dogs had mauled Strode, describing the scene as “gruesome.”

“Amber died from a drug overdose and was not … killed by the two pit bulls that were found in the residence,” Boone said in a news release.

An inquest will be held at a later date.

The boyfriend, whose name has not been released, apparently left the home sometime that morning and returned later to find Strode dead in the master bathroom. He called police, put the dogs in a kennel inside the house and waited for authorities and emergency crews to arrive.

The dogs, whose exact breeds, ages and sizes were not released, were taken to the Sangamon County Animal Control.

Jim Stone, director of the Sangamon County Department of Public Health, said Monday he had not heard from investigators about the matter so he would not discuss whether the dogs remain in custody.

Strode worked as a receptionist at an obstetrics and gynecology clinic at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

I am sure the Media will be out with a story about how the two "Pit Bulls" forced her to take the drugs!

Everyone knows that a Pit Bull will use mind control to kill their victims if they can't satisfy their blood lust.

Is that his way of saying the dogs have already been destroyed?
