Before you ask why didn't they eat the wild ponies I ask how are they supposed to get them? I highly doubt that the Russian government allows its citizens to be armed.

There's this funny system we've got- flight or fight. I can't say what I would do, but I'm sure it would be fight- my dogs are my family and just as if I came home to find someone beating up/in the process of killing my husband, I'd fight with all I had.

Am I capable of killing someone? I don't know, I've never done it before, but I would FIGHT and I would go to the end of the earth to protect what is mine and that includes my husbands, my dogs and my cat.

And it's nice to say that maybe the two men living with the guilt would be enough.. but who says they would ever feel guilt for what they did? If one can even decide to kill a dog- for whatever supposed personal benefits- then I highly doubt that that person would ever feel guilt.

I agree with all of that. My comment was based on another post. Revenge is planned. WHat he did was sheer rage. THe rage I understand, killing someone for revenge I can't.

I totally agree.
I have the laziest 7 year old Black Lab in the world, but I know Jet would protect me. My cat, Peanut, probably not so much but I think he would try. Honestly though, if i came home and saw someone killing my cat, my dog, or my horse I would probably do the same thing that man did. I am in agreement to what most people have said here, pets are apart of my family and they always will be and I will protect and defend them with all my might.

If the police were able to respond it's not like they were in some remote place that had no food at all. I can see being stranded on a deserted island or lost in the wilderness for days/weeks on end, but come on. The pictures portray miles of nothingness.

As far as what I would do.......well, I believe in an "eye for an eye", so yeah, those people would be in big trouble.

I have never been to Siberia but I have a cousin who works for a company that does logging in Siberia and yes where he is at it is remote and sparsely populated but he does not describe a place so desolate that people are force to eat the dogs of their friends.

If they can't find enough to eat (Siberia being so void of food?) then it is time to migrate.

I would think of that as a crime of passion and let the guy go on a temporary insanity plea.
If that happened to my dog, and I didn't manage to kill anyone, they'd at least be looking for replacements for those kneecaps, and a life preserver to help counteract the weight of the cement overshoes...
