Default Tips is too smart

Somehow I think I'm going to have lots of surprises with that little guy...

He already knows he has to pee and poop outside, although he still has accidents. He's also figured out that to go out to pee, he can whine at the gate. That works very well, except that now he does it 2 minutes after I got him back in because he wants to go out to play...

When I take him out and he pees, he comes to get his treat. If I don't have one, he just looks at me and turns away... When I call the dogs back in, I say 'come on boys, inside', and they usually follow me... especially if I have a bag of treats in my hands, and now instead of following me to the room he stays in (until he's housetrained, like I did with Boris - after that he can stay in the house), he rushes past me, goes in the room, and sits there wagging his tail and looking at me expectantly, as he knows he's going to get a treat. Boris is always his very careful self, licking his lips and drooling at the treats but not daring coming in because he knows i will close the gate behind him.

The problem also is that now that he knows how to get treats, he's getting picky with his normal food... I had to spill his food in his crate this morning to get him to eat. He ate some of it, I opened the crate, and he rushed to Boris' bowl... while Boris rushed in the crate to finish the rest... Jee, I need to find a way of getting rid of this problem.

My suggestion is after he comes back in from the bathroom is instead of giving him the whole treat break it in half to where he's still getting the treat but less of it so he's less likey to be so picky with his food. Another suggestion is put his food down and give him 15 minutes or so to eat it. if he doesn't put it up for the night until the next time you feed him. We did that with my dog and he evetually learned that if he doesn't eat within that time frame he won't eat until the next day. hope that helps...good luck.

Yes I always remove the food after 15 minutes. He just needs to put on weight so I don't like doing it with him, lol. But he always has to poop after 15 minutes anyway.
