other people should really be more careful witht their dogs, if your dog is a problem, or will/can be. Walk it on a leash

You can control your dog, you can control your dogs toys, you can take care of your own dog, but you cant pick your friends dogs.Or any body elses dogs!

geez Orion, your not getting the point. I bring several, i play with many people's dog, did you see my video of our park, this is the best park in the state as far as i am concerned and there is no other place where you can take your dog to water that is not full of broken bottles trash and fish hooks. I have been working water dogs for most of my life. I spent 20 YEARS working and managing a kennel for Labradors and golden retrievers that were bred not for show, but for field trials. AN off leash park doesn't mean that if you have a dog that has no manners, and you wish to sit on your can for over an hour ruining the fun of EVERYONE in the beach you have the right to be there. It is considered very bad manners..if you cannot control your dog, or your dog is aggressive and you are wanting to socialize to correct this behavior then you should be with a leash and active in your dog's training. There are many many labradors and pointers that frequent this beach on a daily basis for training. My labrador Charlie once ran a fish hook up his leg that took 80 stitches at a near by lake, and broken bottles are everywhere but here. This is a place where i have found rescue people by the droves, people that are there specifically to train or exhaust thier high energy but friendly dogs..it is a very special place in my heart. To sit on a bench and watch frustrated owners turn and look at you while no one can do anything, to not be able to throw a bumber two feet in front of you to teach a very fat dog that is incredibly interested in learning no matter how far away you move, (it is a very long beach) is rude. Like i posted before, other dogs have scooped up Victor's red rubber ball, i use it because it is his favorite and he knows it is HIS SO HE DOESN"T DISTURB THE OTHER DOGS THAT ARE USING THEIR FAVORITES AND KNOW THAT IS THE ONE THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO GO AFTER SO EVERYBODY CAN WORK THEIR DOGS AT THE SAME TIME! Until you have been there maybe you just don't know how it works. here is the site as an example, you can see that more then one dog is working in the water...and just how nice they are to each other. http://www.ourmedia.org/node/22496 the whole point is that this owner expected everyone else to deal with her animal instead of her. and even when aggravation was shown by more then one person, she still did nothing especially get UP and play with her own dog. If you think that is proper behavior for an adult at an off leash park, then you are sadly mistaken and i hope that you do not conduct yourself the same way.
i just watched my video again, Mary is refusing to pick up her bumper because my friend is there with treats and Mary is on a diet so her mind is on one thing and only that..in the mean time my friend's dog that has never retreived before has gone out and picked up Mary's "bird" ..a very big deal. THe one reason i curtailed this one dog while we were getting the fat dog to learn to retreive was because the situation was hopeless and the lesson about to be learned would be very beneficial to this dog..if we could get him out there swimming nothing would be better in the whole wide world for his health and my friend was there with a digital camera to film and could capture the dog doing this..which would inspire the owner more not to mention please her to no end. She is on a trip with her husband that has a serious brain illness and is going to die. Her life is incredibly hard and we really wanted to be able to share this with her..if i hadn't held that dog's collar for the very few minutes it took to obtain this, we wouldn't have been able to teach the dog, nor share this with the owner. IF it meant annoying the owner on the bench, so what. You are the one that said you would force a human out of the dog park, by what means i have no idea, but what i did was neither improper nor rude. THe dog was in my face and would not leave no matter what we did, i did not harm it in any way. I also gave the bumber to my friend to use for this dog for the rest of their stay together and then to be given to the owner since the dog seemed to like it so much.

We havent been in a dog park in a year or so... Even then my dog rarely wants to do anything with other dogs and just runs around minding his own business.

The point is, you cant tell people what to do with their dogs in a public dog park if they are not breaking any rules.

If the dog was attacking your dog, then I agree, take control of it and tell the owner to take care of the dog. As far as I know, stealing rubber balls is not against the rules of dog park...

didn't say breaking rules, said bad manners. point...was If you had been u would understand more clearly. There were about a dozen people in a muddle because of one animal. No one could do anything without this dog zipping in and riuning everyones, not just my dog's fun. I think you are just wanting to argue so i am not going to debate the point anymore. Just wanted to let my friends know about our experience at the dog park this weekend because it was a first for me. I never saw anyone act quite like this before.

Sorry, Orion, gotta disagree with you to a certain extent on this one. If a dog is taken to a dog park, especially an off leash park, the owner is expected to have enough manners to return toys - and to keep tabs on their own dog and their dog's manners - it's not a place for an owner to sit on their butt and just let things happen. If a dog doesn't have reliable recall and good obedience it shouldn't be there, and if an owner hasn't been decently socialized they certainly don't belong there. A dog park is a place where someone without a reasonable size fenced yard should be able to allow their dog to run but still maintain control over their own dog's behaviour, and others at the dog park should be doing the same. If an owner isn't controlling their dog and it's being a nuisance or even a menace, they've got no room to squawk if someone else has to restrain it - just like you'd step in if you saw one kid bullying or being destructive and his parents just sitting and watching and not stepping in. As the owner of big dogs I would never allow mine to intimidate a dog like Victor who wasn't being a brat. Actually, Shiva and Kharma have enough manners not to be bullies and I'm very proud of them for that.
