Default RIP Ruthie :(

At 5:50am my uncles dog Ruthie passed away. It hit me extremely hard as Ruthie and I have always had a special bond. She was 15 years old has gone deaf and partially blind. Her hips were also in an awful state. Ruthie was a beautiful German Shepherd/Border Collie mix. She was a rescue my aunt and uncle brought home at the age of 6 months.

Ruthie was the calmest most forgiving dog. My cousin Aleisha was constantly dressing her up and making her sit in funny poses. And then I remember clear as day when I was 6 and decided that Ruthie and I would play beauty shop. And so I pulled out my cousins safety scissors and snipped away. Though in my head at the time I hoped no one would notice. The entire time I gave her this haircut she just laid there dozing off. Of course when it was time for me to go and Ruthie reappeared in the living room everyone started to laugh at Ruthies state. To which I burst into tears claiming that I was only trying to make Ruthie look pretty.

Ruthie was always happy to see. Just as happy as say when one of my cousins would walk through the door. I would spend entire visits playing with Ruthie or even I even was given the privlige of giving her walks on my own . Never once did she even walk ahead of me let alone pull me anywhere. She always stayed right by my side.

I had just seen Ruthie for the last time two weeks ago. Old and thin it was sad to see the cloudy blue where her bright brown eyes had once shown. But despite all of this she was my shadow as always. And I beleive though she couldn't hear me and hardly see me she knew my touch.

RIP Ruthie (You were truly a special soul)

15 years is a good long life for a GSD/Border Collie. Run free sweet girl!

I miss you every day, Charlie. You were my teacher, my playmate, and my best friend. Together, we did what we set out to do, and I am so proud of us for that.

She had a good long life but that doesn't make the leaving any easier does it. RIP Ruthie, you were a lucky girl.
