Hi. I posted a while ago about getting a new dog to work around my horses. Thanks to everyone for all the great advice!! Once I finally do get the new dog, I definately want to take a training class with it. I was wondering if there were certain certifications I should look for when choosing a trainer. No offense but I dont want to take the dog somewhere like petsmart (I had a friend who worked there and they made her a 'certified dog trainer' and I know she knows absolutely nothing about dogs, she just completed their little course). So I know there are all kinds of 'certifications' out there, which ones should I look for? Which certifications are actually legitimate? Im in Columbia, SC so if anyone knows someone there that would be great! Thanks

well CPDT is the one I would go with but there are some great trainers out there without CPDT certification. It's the only thing that actually is a certification comlete with exam etc
http://www.ccpdt.org/ In Canada I look alos for CAPPDT and in the US APDT
