Default my new darling-- a question --

Hi all,

Just today I adopted a Carin Terrier and Chiuhuahua mix, Luke. He's only a puppy at 3 months old. Can anyone tell me anything about what type of a personality he might take on (I understand animals are/can be as individual as a human, but I've only had one dog in my past and I am no dog expert) ? I did a bit of reading about each breed so I'm sort of going off of that.

I'm also wondering if anyone can tell me how long it usually takes for a pup to be fully grown. I'm curious about how big he will get.

Congrats on your new baby, Luke! I'm not an expert on small breeds, but I'm guessing he might get to be 10-12 pounds? Also, terriers and chihuahua's tend to be big dogs in little dog suits! Lots of attitude! But that just makes them even more personable...

Yeah, I was going to say that Chihuahuas definately think they're bigger than they actually are! They are also a really affectionate breed, and just love human company and to have a cuddle. Try and socialise your puppy a lot, because Chihuahuas can become quite protective of their owners, so it's good to get your dog interacting and playing nicely with other dogs. I've never had or met a Cairn Terrier before, so I can't give you much help there. By the way, congrats on getting Luke, I hope you have heaps of fun together!

P.S. Reguarding the time it usually takes for a pup to be fully grown, well each breed is different and your dog may be fully grown by the time it's around 10 months to a year old, or so. It's quite hard to tell with mixed breeds, though.

It's been my experience with Cairn Terriers that they are somewhat independant doggies. They are a lot like Westies. I've never had one but cared for many in a kennel environment. They are feisty and can be dog agressive so get to socializing! Chuhuahuas become very attatched to their owners and may not be very social with other people. They can also be snippy, nervous and fearful. Hope your puppy has the best of both breeds!
I have a pug/rat terrier mix and I don't know what to expect either!
